About
Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. is the Manhattan District Attorney who led the state prosecution of Luigi Mangione for the December 2024 murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Elected in 2021 as Manhattan's first Black DA, Bragg announced Mangione's indictment on charges including first-degree murder in 2025, describing the killing as a "frightening, well-planned, targeted murder." He pushed for the state trial to proceed before the federal case, arguing state interests would be prejudiced by delay.
